At this time, all PediaSure drinks contain cow’s milk whey protein concentrate, you should consult your child’s physician.

3. Is PediaSure powder suitable for lactose intolerance?

Pediasure is not lactose free. It contains clinically insignificant amount of lactose. Pediasure is suitable for lactose intolerance provided it is not mixed with other sources for lactose during preparation like ordinary milk.

4. Can I use PediaSure powder for tube feeding?

PediaSure Complete is designed to provide complete, balanced nutrition for children. It can be used as a nutritional supplement with or between meals. PediaSure Complete is designed for both short-term and long-term nutrition support; however, it is not intended to be used as a sole source of nutrition especially long term.

6. What is the nutritional difference of mixing PediaSure powder with milk and water?

It is the difference between the milk and water, adding milk will add to the nutrient and caloric value and it should be supervised by the doctor. Follow the instructions of preparation on each individual tin to ensure that your child got the benefits and nutritional values claimed on the tin.

7. What is the recommended amount of PediaSure to use in a day?

Twice daily to sustain long term balanced growth.

In general, there is not a limit on the amount of PediaSure that a child can safely consume. For an individual child, the amount of PediaSure that is needed — or is acceptable — on a daily basis should be discussed with the child's healthcare professional. 13. How is lactose intolerance different from a milk allergy?

Lactose is the main sugar found in milk. Lactose intolerance means that your body can’t digest it well leading to several symptoms like colic, flatulence and diarrhea. It is not a serious condition and always relates to the amount of lactose ingested, while a milk allergy is a reaction by the body's immune system to one or more milk proteins and can be life-threatening when just a small amount of milk or milk product is consumed.

Some symptoms of milk allergy can be similar to lactose intolerance symptoms (i.e. gas, bloating, abdominal pain), however lactose intolerance is not a milk allergy.

Moreover, a milk allergy most commonly occurs in the first year of life, while lactose intolerance occurs more often during adolescence or adulthood. That’s why these are two completely difference conditions.

Lactose is a sugar found in milk and milk products. The small intestine – the organ where most food digestion and nutrition absorption take place – produces an enzyme called lactase. Lactase breaks down lactose into two simpler forms of sugar; glucose and galactose. The body then absorbs these simpler sugars into the bloodstream. Lactose intolerance is a condition in which people have digestive symptoms – such as bloating, diarrhea, and gas – after eating or drinking milk or milk products.

Lactose intolerance is the inability or insufficient ability to digest lactose, a sugar found in milk and milk products. People with lactose intolerance may experience abdominal pain, abdominal bloating, gas, diarrhea, and nausea after consuming products containing lactose.

Most people with lactose intolerance can tolerate some amount of lactose in their diet. Gradually introducing small amounts of milk or milk products may help some people adapt to them with fewer symptoms. In children, the complete absence of the lactase enzyme is extremely rare, but it frequently occurs after attacks of gastroenteritis due to transient deficiency of the lactase enzyme for up to 2 weeks.

How can PediaSure 2+ be prepared and stored?

16. Can PediaSure Complete be warmed, like hot chocolate? Can I use a microwave oven?

Heating PediaSure during preparation will destroy the probiotics losing its benefits, however still keeping all other nutrient and caloric values. We advise not to heat PediaSure to obtain maximum benefit.

18. Can I freeze PediaSure products?

We do not recommend freezing and then thawing these products. If the product is frozen and then thawed, it may change the physical appearance, making it look unacceptable.
